Whilst studying, I  was awarded the Santander scholarship for innovation and entrepreneurship. I was also chosen to represent innovation and entrepreneurship at the University of Bristol. I gave a speech to the Mayor of Bristol and around 200 guests. Following this, The Sunday Times published an article on my team's proposal for a design brief set by Tough Mudder. Adding to this, a  case study I wrote investigating the design of 'modern' office space and its' influence on employees and their productivity was published and available on Amazon.

Case Study

This case study explored the interplay between office design and culture, particularly examining the approach global innovation consultancy IDEO has taken.

An increasing number of organizations are deviating away from traditional office spaces and towards more 'trendy' and unconventional office designs in an attempt to boost productivity and employee satisfaction. The hope is that these unusual office designs also give the organization a competitive edge when recruiting young, skilled professionals who are highly sought after. However, a common misconception is that to achieve an attractive workspace it must have, for example, luxurious facilities, colourful materials, beanbags and tennis table/ pool tables. These workspaces can often resemble a playground, equipped with coffee bars and kindergarten-like features. Companies are introducing superficial changes and expect a consequent increase in productivity. However, these are often gimmicky schemes and the actual needs of the employees are underestimated.

Innovative, successful companies design offices with their employee's needs at the forefront. The link between human behaviour and office design is not one to be looked over. Without the two working together, productivity, innovation and creativity would not reach its maximum potential.
